Tesla Motors Australia Pty Ltd — Tesla Model S & Tesla Model X
What are the defects?
Electric parking brakes on some Model S and Model X vehicles built between February and October 2016 may contain a faulty gear that can prevent the parking brake from releasing. The regular braking system of the vehicles is not affected.
What are the hazards?
If the parking brake cannot be released, the vehicle could be a hazard to car occupants or other road users. Should the gear fracture prior to full parking brake engagement, the affected parking brake caliper may have less than the intended holding force.
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted directly by letter, email or telephone and provided with instructions on how to have the parking brakes replaced.
Consumers may continue to use their vehicle normally until it has been repaired.
