Kia Motors Australia — Kia BL Sorento MY2006-2009 and VQ Carnival MY2006-2010
What are the defects?
The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), responsible for the Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control System and Traction Control System, can remain live even when the vehicle is switched off. If moisture enters the HECU, an electrical short circuit can occur.
What are the hazards?
If an electrical short circuit occurs, this could result in an engine compartment fire when the key is switched off. This could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.
What should consumers do?
Kia Motors Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles. Consumers should contact their nearest Kia Motors Australia dealer to arrange for inspection and repair of the vehicle.
Parts are due to become available in July 2020. Once parts become available, Kia will contact affected owners again, requesting that owners make an appointment to have the vehicle repaired.
Until repairs have been made, consumers should park their vehicles outside away from structures and other vehicles.
For further information, consumers should contact Kia Motors Australia on 13 15 42.
