Child safety focus in new guidelines for standards
Newly published guidelines for child safety in standards are now available via the ISO website. The publication, ISO/IEC Guide 50, Safety aspects for child safety in standards and other specifications, is designed to provide guidance to standard writers and experts during the standard development and/or revision phases.
The Guide aims to address possible sources of physical harm to children from the products they use or come in contact with. It describes children’s characteristics that make them more prone to hazards and also includes an inventory of hazards children might encounter, along with strategies to reduce the risk.
The ACCC was part of the development process for this guide the representative of the relevant Standards Australia committee and will be using the guide to inform future work related to specific safety standards for children’s products.
